February 27 - Pennington County Master Gardeners present their 10th Annual “Spring Fever”  Horticulture day on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Cost is $20.00 which includes lunch and handouts.   The day will include 2 speakers,  mini breakout sessions and many vendors will be on hand.  The owners of “The Right Plant Place” from Perham, MN will speak on Perennials.  Other instructors are yet to be determined.  For more information, please call Kim Swanson at the Pennington County Extension Office at 218-683-7030 or 1-800-681-2116.
March 6 -Spring Wake Up Conference - Clearwater County Extension starting at 9:00 am in Bagley.
March 13 -  The 23rd Annual Spring Fling East Metro gardening seminars at Oakland Junior High School, 820 Manning Ave. N., Lake Elmo from 8:30 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Two keynote speakers will be: Debbie Lonee on "New & Exciting Annual Varieties for 2010" and Martin Stern on "Making the Most of It: Plants & Ideas for Every Season.

Concurrent sessions will be:

March 20 - Moorhead Community Education and the Master Gardeners of Clay County, "Green, Growing and Grand", Eighth Annual Gardening Seminar
This year, our garden seminar will focus even more on earth-friendly growing practices. Our featured speaker this year is Melinda Myers, nationally known gardening author, speaker, and host of the PBS program "Great Lakes Gardener." Her topic, Growing Green - Environmentally Friendly Landscapes, will be relevant to all gardeners, regardless of age or experience. Melinda has written more than 20 books, including "Month-by-Month Gardening in Minnesota" and "Can't Miss Small Space Gardening."
Eric Bergeson, a perennial favorite for our garden seminar, will be there in the afternoon.
9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Horizon Middle School Gymnasium, 3601 12th Ave S. Moorhead.  Registration Deadline is Wednesday, March 17. 
Cost for the seminar is $33.

March 20 - East Ottertail Country Garden Day
in Perham at the Prairie Wind Middle School.  Cost will be $20.00 which includes five classroom sessions plus handouts, lunch, Vendor shopping, coffee & refreshments.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the Keynote Speaker, Michael Heger from Amber Gate Gardens, speaking at 9:00 a.m.  Classes start at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m. No pre-registration required.

March 20 - Stearns County Horticulture Education Day
at St. John's University, Collegeville. Speakers are Vince Fritz, Jerry Wright, Mike
Goblirsch (UM grad student), and master gardeners.  Cost is $27 including
materials, refreshments and lunch. 
March 27 - Douglas County Master Gardener's Education Day, "Let's Get Growing"
at the Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, MN.  Our Keynote Speaker is University of Minnesota Associate Professor and Author Jeff Gillman.  Pre-registration by March 17 is just $20 and includes 5 break-out sessions, lunch, door prizes and many vendors. March 27 - West Otter Tail County Master Gardner's Garden Day is held at Underwood Public School, 9 miles east of Fergus Falls on Highway 10. The $25 admission includes choice of workshops, keynote speaker, flowerpot lunch, continental breakfast, and snacks. Attendees can select from among 80 workshops/times organized into five gardening tracts: Garden Basics (e.g., seed starting, composting); Vegetable/fruit Gardening/Preserving, Growing Plants (e.g., lilies, ornamental grasses, houseplants), Landscaping Elements (e.g., container gardening, planting for autumn color), Nature and Environment (e.g., lakeshore restoration, rain gardens) or Garden Arts & Crafts (e.g., making a living wreath, making mosaic garden art). Eric Bergeson is back by popular demand as keynote speaker.
Doors open at 8:00 a.m., workshops begin at 9:00 a.m. and keynote is at 3:00 p.m.

March 27 - 5th Annual Westonka Horticulture Day is Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Mound Westonka High School. Keynote speaker Dr. Mary Meyer, over 15 additional workshops to select from the rest of the day. Vendor fair, door prizes and FlowerPot lunch with a twist.  Watch web site for announcements and list of speakers and topics as we celebrate 5 years of providing educational programs.

April 10 - Crow Wing County Master Gardeners are sponsoring their 9th annual Ready,
Set, Grow! Garden Expo 2010 on Saturday, April 10th at Central Lakes College
in Brainerd.  The event is from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm.  The morning keynote
presentation is "The Truth About Garden Remedies" by Jeff Gillman (U of M)
and the afternoon keynote presentation is "New Plants for 2010" by Shelly
Boser (Landsburg Landscape Nursery).
There will be two break-out sessions including: "Lilies", "Irises", "The
Truth about Organic Gardening", "Ornamental Grasses", "Mulching",
"Composting", "Vegetable Gardening 101", "Emerald Ash Borer", "Basic
Landscape Design", "Adding Natives to Your Landscape", "Roses" and
"Preserving Your Harvest".
Vendors - Exhibits - Door Prizes - Silent Auction - Morning Coffee and
Refreshments - Lunch.....all for $25.

April 17 - Spring Landscaping Day
The Aitkin County Master Gardeners will be focusing on Reducing Runoff on Residential and Lake Lots. The subjects to be covered are: 1)Why Reduce Runoff? 2) How Runoff Reduction Techniques Impact Your Landscaping Objectives 3) Permeable Hardscapes 4) Temporary Storage of Runoff, 5) Erosion Prevention and 6) Alternate Septic Landscaping. Resistration material will be mailed in March and can be obtained from Janet Smude at smude.aitkinswcd@gmail.
